If you’ve read Night Buddies Adventures, you already know Crosley is no ordinary crocodile. He’s bright red, talks a mile a minute, loves pineapple cheesecake more than anything, and works for a top-secret Night Buddies organization. But Crosley is a crocodile … and that got us wondering: what’s the deal with crocodiles anyway?

This week, we’re diving snout-first into the world of crocs—real ones and Crosley-style. Here are five fun facts about crocodiles, plus one that might only be true in the Night Buddies universe. (Read to the very bottom for a fun, bonus surprise!)

1. Crocodiles Can’t Stick Out Their Tongues

That’s right—unlike Crosley, who talks non-stop and might even talk with his mouth full of cheesecake, real crocodiles can’t stick out their tongues. Their tongues are attached to the roof of their mouths, which helps them swallow prey underwater without choking.

(We’re pretty sure Crosley would find that extremely inconvenient for late-night snacking.)

2. They’ve Been Around Since the Dinosaurs

Crocodiles are ancient! Scientists believe they’ve been on Earth for over 200 million years, which means they outlived the dinosaurs and have seen a lot of history. They’ve stayed mostly the same for millions of years because, well, they’re already awesome at what they do!

Maybe Crosley’s been around that long, too… but he just doesn’t look a day over twelve.

3. Their Eyes Glow in the Dark

This one’s just begging for a Night Buddies mission: real crocodile eyes glow red at night when light shines on them—kind of like a cat’s eyes, but spookier. This helps them see in the dark, which is great for night hunting (or sneaking through a secret pineapple cheesecake factory, depending on your adventure).

So Crosley’s bright red glow? Maybe it’s not just from cheesecake overload.

4. They Don’t Sweat, They Sunbathe

Crocodiles can’t sweat, so they regulate their body temperature by basking in the sun with their mouths wide open. It might look like they’re smiling or even yawning, but they’re actually just cooling off.

Now imagine Crosley lounging on a rooftop, sunning himself between missions—mouth open, shades on, cheesecake crumbs everywhere.

5. Crocodiles Are Surprisingly Smart

Believe it or not, crocodiles are clever. They can remember locations, plan ambushes, and even communicate with each other using over a dozen sounds. That makes them one of the smartest reptiles out there!

We already knew Crosley was sharp (he is a Night Buddies agent, after all), but it turns out he’s not the only brainy croc in town.

And the Bonus (Totally Silly) Fact…

Real crocodiles do NOT eat pineapple cheesecake.
(We know. We’re disappointed too.)

While real crocs mostly snack on fish, birds, and the occasional wild animal, Crosley’s favorite food is, of course, pineapple cheesecake—preferably by the slice. Still, entire cakes are acceptable in a dessert emergency.

Final Thoughts: Why We Love Crocs (Especially Crosley)

Crocodiles may not be everyone’s first choice for favorite animal, but Night Buddies fans know that with the right attitude, a red suit, and a good cause (like stopping sneaky goons in the middle of the night), a crocodile can be the ultimate hero.

So the next time you read a Night Buddies book, remember: behind the scales and silly quirks, there’s a whole world of cool crocodile facts hidden in plain sight.

And if you do happen to see Crosley around, ask him if he can stick out his tongue—we’re pretty sure he’ll have a story about that too.
