This summer may be shaping up a little different than usual for a lot of us. Instead of heading out on vacations across the country or the world, more of us are planning on staycationing in our own backyards. When you’re getting the summer travel itch, here are a few books you and yours kids can read together to transport you on a vacation right from your home!
A Ticket Around the World by Natalia Diaz
“Join a young boy as he hops around the globe, visiting friends in 13 different countries spanning all six populated continents. Along the way, he introduces us to each friend’s environment and customs, and shares interesting facts about each country’s culture, language, food, geography, wildlife, landmarks and more!”
Everywhere, Wonder by Matthew Swanson
“Journey into the imagination of a young boy—who explores everything from the pyramids of Egypt to a dusty footprint on the moon—and then back out again to the wonderful world right in front of him.”
How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman
“This deliciously silly recipe for apple pie takes readers around the globe to gather ingredients. First hop a steamboat to Italy for the finest semolina wheat. Then hitch a ride to England and hijack a cow for the freshest possible milk. And, oh yes! Don’t forget to go apple picking in Vermont!”
Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey
“The spell of rain, the gulls and a foggy morning, the excitement of sailing, the quiet of the night, the sudden terror of a hurricane, and, in the end, the peace of the island as the family packs up to leave are shown in poetic language and vibrant, evocative pictures.”
